Effective from November 20, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Kenya has introduced significant changes to the visa application process for both Chinese nationals residing in Kenya and Kenyan citizens intending to visit China. 

This alteration aims to streamline and expedite the visa application procedure, fostering stronger diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Visa Appointment Elimination

Chinese nationals in Kenya no longer need to schedule visa appointments at the Chinese consular post. Instead, they can directly submit their visa applications to the Visa Application Center located in Nairobi. This alteration simplifies the process, removing the need for prior appointments.

Application Procedures

It's crucial to note that despite the removal of visa appointments, applicants are required to submit their visa requests during official working hours. The processing duration and associated fees for visa applications remain unchanged.

Purpose of the Decision

The decision to eradicate visa appointments underscores a commitment to further facilitate bilateral exchanges between China and Kenya. 

This strategic move aims to enhance diplomatic relations, promote business ventures, and encourage cultural exchange between the two nations.

Types of Visas Available for Kenyans

Tourist Visa (L-visa)

Kenyans can apply for either a single-entry or double-entry tourist visa. This visa category enables travel to China for leisure and tourism purposes.

Business Visa (M-visa)

The M-visa allows Kenyans to engage in various business activities in China, including negotiations, attending conferences, or participating in trade fairs. It's valid for a single entry within a 30-day period.

Work Visa (Z-visa)

Designed for employment purposes, the Z-visa is available to individuals such as researchers, teachers, company executives, and others seeking employment in China. It's a single-entry visa valid for a 90-day period.

Other Non-immigrant Visas

Kenyans have the option to apply for a range of non-immigrant visas beyond the mentioned categories. These include private visas, student visas, journalist visas, among others, catering to diverse purposes and needs.

Applicants must prepare and provide a comprehensive set of documents, including:

• Valid Passport
• Completed Visa Application Form
• Recent Passport Photo
• Proof of Legal Residence
• Proof of Financial Capability

Visa Processing Time

The duration for processing visas varies based on several factors, including the specific type of visa applied for and the efficiency of the application process. Applicants are advised to plan accordingly and submit their applications well in advance of their intended travel dates.
